Saber Tag FAQs

What does ‘Tetherless’ Mean?

This means that the players will not be tied together by any hardware or wiring, nor will they be physically connected to a third system. All communication is currently handled via WiFi, so a wireless connection is necessary.

What does ‘Conductive’ mean?

There’s a very low voltage used to register hits. It’s a voltage amount that is safe to touch, and it enables the systems to instantly register when players’ blades and/or wearables have made clean contact. More on this in an upcoming feature post.

Can I play with more than two people at once?

This was one of the main goals of Saber Tag, to sword fight with large groups of people, in single or in team game modes. However, to keep the scope of this initial Kickstarter manageable, each kit is going to be connected to another specific paired kits. So only two player sword fighting will be enabled.

The next iteration will have the ability to start games with two or more players, as well as a few specific game concepts that have been in the works over the years.

How do you win at Saber Tag?

Each game of Saber Tag will start each player with the same amount of Hit Points (HP) and a timer. Both of these values can be adjusted in the settings. When the game starts, you both have until time runs out to score clean hits against each other.

A clean hit will be counted if a player’s blade is able to make clean contact with the other player’s wearables. (More on this in an upcoming feature post.)

A clean hit will subtract HP from the player who was hit. The amount subtracted is based on how valuable the area was that was hit. (E.g., a hit to the arms will be worth less than a hit to the chest).

After a clean hit, there is a timeout of a few seconds, so that players can physically reset and then resume play.
