SABER TAG

  • Friday Feature #4: Video Game Themed Saber Housing

Hot off the printer, here’s a sneak peek at the second of three special designs for the Kickstarter: A guard, hilt, and pommel designed to let you master your Saber with a certain video game feel.

We’ll also be designing the HP Indicators around these themes as well, and those finalized designs will be coming shortly.

We’re getting close to the Kickstarter launch, and there’s an exciting new development to share this weekend!

So stay tuned for a few back to back updates, and spread the word to see more Saber Tag updates!

  • Friday Feature #3: Saber Housing

Here’s a close up look at the housing used for the sabers. The design has gotten more condensed and streamlined since the first prototypes, to keep the ‘guard’ as small and streamlined as possible.

The LCD screen on the front has four buttons for navigating the menu, changing system settings, and starting/pausing/restarting the game.

The goal is to have the screen be as unobtrusive as possible while you’re sword fighting, and the game screen UI will be shown off in a future post.

As a special treat, here’s a sneak peek at one of the special designs for the Kickstarter: A Sci-Fi-inspired guard, hilt, and pommel!

There will be two more special designs available for backers as well, so stay tuned for more updates as the Kickstarter Launch approaches!

  • Friday Feature #2: HP Indicator

The next Saber Tag feature to be featured is the HP Indicator.

You may have already seen these glowing in the center of the chests in previous posts. This simple Indicator is used to track and display your current Hit Points (HP) to your opponent, and to help indicate the game state to your opponent.

If you take a clean hit, your Indicator will flash as one of the several simultaneous ways players both know a clean hit has landed.

When the flash ends, the player color will return, but with less pixels lit up, proportional to the amount of HP that was lost (more on how clean hits are rewarded coming soon!)

The Indicators let each player intuitively track how much HP their opponent has, without needing to check the sword’s screen (more on the screen UI also coming soon!)

  • Friday Feature #1: Blade Lights

While developing Saber Tag, the most asked question has been, without a doubt, “Do the swords light up?”

So here’s what the people wanted: a saber blade that lights up.

It can even change color to indicate a clash, a clean hit, or a victory/defeat.

So it not only looks cool, but the colors help keep everyone updated about the state of the game.

Stay tuned for more features and footage!
